Munster Rugby Defeat The DHL Stormers To Claim The URC Title
Munster Rugby have defeated the Stormers at the DHL Stadium to claim the United Rugby Championship (URC) title the first trophy for the club since 2011.
Munster Rugby have claimed its first title since 2011 with a gutsy 19 – 14 win over the DHL Stormers in Cape Town.
Opening the contest was Stormers flyhalf Manie Libbok who picked off a loose Antione Frisch offload to race away for a try inside five minutes.
From here, Munster went to work scoring first through hooker Diarmuid Barron before Calvin Nash picked off a sublime crossfield kick from Jack Crowley to give Munster their first lead.
Losing captain Peter O’Mahony on the half-hour mark, Munster were under the pump for much of the contest.
This pressure would tell as Deon Fourie burrowed his way over for a try to put the Stormers ahead 14 – 7 ten minutes into the second half.
With five minutes left on the clock, it looked as though Munster would leave empty-handed as the Stormers defended ferociously.
Yet, with every wave of Munster attack, belief grew, and gaps began to appear in the blue wall.
Having sucked in the Stormers' defence, Munster put the ball through the hands of powerful backrow John Hodnett who brushed off multiple tacklers to nudge the visitors in front.
