The 2023 Rugby World Cup final was expected to feature new teams battling for their first World Cup title. 

But that’s not what happened. Instead, the two most prestigious national teams in the world will play for the most Rugby World Cup titles all-time. 

New Zealand Rugby, which entered the World Cup as the No. 4 team in the world and lost its first-ever pool play game to open the tournament in September, will play for a fourth Rugby World Cup crown. 

South Africa Rugby, which entered the World Cup as the No. 3 team in the world and lost to then-No. 1 Ireland in pool play, will play for a fourth Rugby World Cup crown. 

It’s the most famous rivalry in international rugby and it’s the 2023 Rugby World Cup Final on Oct. 28.
