The Investec Champions Cup begins Dec. 8 across Europe and South Africa as 24 of some of the best rugby clubs in the world compete for the European championship. 

Established in 1995, the Champions Cup has crowned champions for almost 30 years and this year features clubs from Ireland, England, Wales, Scotland, France and South Africa. The tournament includes teams from the United Rugby Championship, Top 14 and Gallagher Premiership.

The goal is to reach London’s Tottenham HotSpur Stadium in late May, where the Champions Cup Final will be played. 

But to get there, teams must manage through a 16-team playoff that follows four rounds of pool play.

Who Is In The Investec Champions Cup Rugby Pool 1?

Here are the six teams in Pool 1 

• Saracens (Gallagher Premiership) 
• Union Bordeaux-Bègles (Top 14)
• Vodacom Bulls (URC) 
• Bristol Bears (Gallagher Premiership) 
• Connacht Rugby (URC) 
• Lyon (Top 14)

2024 Investec Champions Cup Rugby Pool 1 Outlook

Saracens is one of the heavyweight teams in this pool. 

A three-time Champions Cup winner and one-time runner-up, Saracens is the defending Gallagher Premiership champion. They last won the Champions Cup in 2019. Saracens is led by English star Owen Farrell, who helped England reach the 2023 Rugby World Cup semifinals. 

Connacht Rugby, led by World Rugby Player of The Year Finalist Bundee Aki, of the URC could be the darkhorse to win and or advance out of the pool. Connacht did not qualify for the Champions Cup in 2022-2023.

The Bulls will be looking to become the first Champions Cup winner from South Africa, while Lyon, Bristol and Union Bordeaux-Bègles will be seeking their first Champions Cup final appearance.
