It’s been a tough season for La Rochelle in the Top 14. Beset by injuries and 2024 World Cup departures, Stade Rochelais finds itself down the table in the French professional league. 

Meanwhile, Leinster was set back by the same Rugby World Cup departures, but the Dublin-based juggernaut enters the Champions Cup at the top of the current URC standings. 

But none of that matters as quite literally a new season begins this week with Round 1 of the 2024 Investec Champions Cup kicking off.

Leinster enters the Champions Cup with back-to-back wins over Irish Union rivals Connacht and Munster (both of whom are also in the Champions Cup field). 

La Rochelle Rugby Results

A few weeks ahead of the URC schedule, Top 14 teams have played nine rounds and so far the story of the season has been La Rochelle and not in a good way. 

The club is 4-0-5 and ninth in the league and teetering on the edge of not even qualifying for next year’s Champions Cup. 

La Rochelle has its reasons. Stars Will Skelton and Jonathan Danty have both dealt with injuries stemming from the World Cup. 

Getting healthy, La Rochelle has won three of its last four matches in Top 14 action. 

La Rochelle Vs. Leinster Results And History

La Rochelle rallied from 17-0 in the 2023 Champions Cup Final in May to secure the cup for the second year in a row as an underdog to Leinster. Leinster remains one cup short to tie for the most championships. 

This will be the fourth meeting between the the two clubs and so far La Rochelle is 3-0 against the Irish powerhouse. In the three previous meetings, La Rochelle ended Leinster's championship run.
