Now the Chiefs host one of the most anticipated matches of pool play when they host defending United Rugby Championship winners Munster Rugby in a massive showdown. Munster enters the match after playing in the only Round 1 match to end in a draw.
But the 17-17 draw to Top 14 club Aviron Bayonnais might feel like a loss to Munster, who was hosting the match.

Aviron Bayonnais celebrated the draw while Munster players had shocked faces as a last-second drop kick sailed wide right in the 79th minute of the match. Munster now sits fourth in the table for Pool 3.

The Exeter Chiefs were semifinalist in the previous Champions Cup and they started this year's tournament off with a huge road win, 19-18. It was the closest match of the first week-- aside from the one that didn't end in a draw (Munster and Aviron Bayonnais).

The two clubs last met in the 2022 Champions Cup Round of 16 with Munster rallying to beat Exeter 34-23 after outscoring Exeter in the second half 26-10 in Sandy Park. This is Munster's third visit to Sandy Park, with the two clubs meeting in pool play in 2018 and finishing in a 10-10 draw.
