Munster Rugby Star Simon Zebo Announces Retirement From Professional Rugby

Simon Zebo has announced his retirement from rugby at the end of the season, concluding a stellar career with PBC, Cork Constitution, Munster, Racing 92, Ireland and the British & Irish Lions.

As Munster's all-time leading try-scorer with 72 tries in 173 appearances, Zebo will be remembered as one of the province's greatest players. His 35 tries in the Champions Cup are the most by any Irish player, placing him third on the competition’s all-time list.

Zebo’s rugby journey began with PBC and Cork Constitution, where he showcased his talents by winning a Pinergy Munster Schools Senior Cup in 2007 and two All Ireland Leagues in 2008 and 2010.

He made his Munster debut as an Academy player in 2010, contributing to the team's Magners League title the following season.

In 2012, Zebo earned his first Ireland cap, scoring seven tries in 35 appearances, including a Six Nations title in 2015 and a spot in that year’s World Cup. He also played three times for the British & Irish Lions in 2013.

Zebo moved to Racing 92 in 2018, where he maintained his impressive try-scoring form with 25 tries in 60 appearances. He returned to Munster in 2021, adding 13 tries in 29 appearances and helping Munster clinch the URC title last year.

Simon Zebo's Retirement Statement

After much thought, I’ve decided that this season will be my last playing the game I love. It has been a dream come true, making memories and friends for life and travelling the world with amazing people.

A huge thank you to my family, friends, teammates, coaches and supporters – without ye none of this would have been possible. I am truly grateful for all the love and support over the years.

I’ve loved every second, it’s been some craic and I can’t wait to see what’s next.

Lots of Love
