One of the issues European Professional Club Rugby squads must manage during the Investec Champions Cup is the balance between the EPCR's tournament and the domestic league season. 

For the most part, Leinster Rugby has handled it quite well over the years. Despite reaching the last two Champions Cup Finals, Leinster has finished first in the United Rugby Championship table. But they've also failed to make the URC Final in both seasons. 

"Leinster on the other hand have shown an inability to manage the end of the season correctly over the past two seasons," said FloRugby analysis Philip Bendon. "And have rotated their squad which has seen them lose back-to-back semifinals (to the Bulls and Munster)."

In 2022, it was a 27-26 loss to the Vodacom Bulls in the semifinals. Last year it was a painful 16-15 loss to bitter rival Munster, who went on to beat defending URC champion DHL Stormers in the Grand Final. 

But things are different in 2024. Namely the calendar. 

"This will be less of a challenge this season as the Champions Cup comes before the BKT URC quarterfinals which will mean they will pick their best team for the run in," Bendon said. 

This year, with just one week remaining in the URC regular season before the quarterfinals of the Knockout Stage begin on June 7, Leinster is trailing both Munster and the Bulls in the table. Munster has a three-point advantage while the Bulls have a 1-point edge. 

Leinster is 12-0-5 through 17 weeks in the URC, and that's having to also manage the undefeated Champions Cup slate and the Six Nations tournament which took 19 of their players to the Ireland national team. 

Leinster faces Toulouse Rugby, or Stade Toulousain, in the Investec Champions Cup Final at 9:45 a.m. EST on May 25 at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London. 

Meanwhile, the EPCR Challenge Cup finalist from the URC, the Hollywoodbets Sharks, are 13th in the table with a 4-0-13 record. The Sharks faces Gloucester Rugby at 3 p.m. EST on May 25 at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London.
