Australia Rugby and its counterpart on July 6 in one of the Aussie's first test matches of the summer, Wales, enter the match at 5:45 a.m. EST at Allianz Stadium in Moore Park, Australia in very similar spot. 

Both are trying to regain the the strong footing they once had in the sport.

Australia enters the first test match since October 2023 hoping to rebound from what was an extremely disappointing Rugby World Cup. The Wallabies failed to advance out of the pool stage for the first time ever at the Rugby World Cup and are now on their third coach since the end of 2022. 

The second Eddie Jones era in Australia lasted less than a year before the national team decided to move on and hire former Ireland national coach Joe Schmidt.

The second Warren Gatland era for Wales has lasted longer than Jones' second run, but like Jones, success has eluded him so far. 

During the 2010s, Australia and Wales both saw a high-level of success. Wales won multiple Six Nations Grand Slams and Australia reached the 2015 Rugby World Cup Final undefeated before losing the match.  

For Wales and Gatland, the team is building for the future after its golden age hoping to be competitive in the next two Rugby World Cups with their young squad. Wales started the summer with a loss to No. 1 South Africa in London in June. 

The team also suffered a major loss when Louis Zammit-Rees, arguably the best young player in Wales, opted to sign with the Kansas City Chiefs and attempt to play in the NFL. 

Australia, meanwhile, is on a countdown to be competitive as they host the RWC in 2027. Schmidt has his work cut out for him.
