The New Zealand All Blacks defeated the Fiji Flying Fijians at Snapdragon Stadium.

The squads were playing their first match in the USA, and the first neutral-site match in their history, too. It was the first time in 40 years the All Blacks played in San Diego.

Although it was a hard-fought match from the Fijian side, the All Blacks put the game away by the end of the first half. They headed to the locker room with a 26-5 lead.

The All Blacks scored 21 more points in the second half, making the final score New Zealand 47-5.

Fiji scored only one try, but a beautiful one, with a kick ahead to Semi Radradra, who then transferred to Vilimoni Botitu, who took it across the line.

The All Blacks debuted multiple players and two scored - George Bell and Billy Proctor, who both started. New Zealand extends its streak to eight straight test-match wins against Fiji.

Next Up For The New Zealand All Blacks

They'll start the tourney with two games against Argentina, before turning their attention to two massive matches with No. 1-ranked South Africa.

End Of Game; New Zealand 47, Fiji 5

It's over in San Diego, folks. The All Blacks kept the game in control in both halves, scoring 47 points overall. The win included great play from the All Blacks debutants, namely Billy Proctor.

Fiji fought hard the whole game, but was held to one try, which was scored in the first half.

Bell Scores Try In Debut; 47-5

The All Blacks score another try, and their long line of young backups have shown up.

Add debutant George Bell to the list, who scores a try with three minutes left in the game.

McKenzie makes the kick.

Closer Look At Sevu Reece Try

All Blacks Score Try; 40-5

Ethan de Groot takes it across the line to put the All Blacks up massively. Fiji hasn't really shown much since halftime, outside of a few opportunities.

The All Blacks have had nearly 60% possession, but it feels like quite a bit more.

Chiefs fly-half McKenzie makes another conversion.

Clarke Try Reversed; 55'

Caleb Clarke thought he'd scored another try, but there was a penalty on the All Blacks for illegally tackling a Fijian player.

The score is still 33-5, with New Zealand in the lead.

NZ Charge Downfield, Sevu Reece Try; 33-5

Sevu Reece catches the transfer from Billy Proctor, who continues to have an impressive debut, and the New Zealand All Blacks waste very little time scoring after halftime.

Damian McKenzie makes the kick.

Fiji Kicks Off To NZ, Second Half Begins

If the All Blacks continue to control this game through the first 10 minutes, it's likely we will see more debutants come into the game for their first caps.

Fiji Cibi & New Zealand Haka; Pre-Game

The Fijians perform the Cibi before the game, and the New Zealand All Blacks return the favor with their Haka.

Halftime In San Diego; All Blacks 26, Fiji 5

The teams are headed into the locker room after putting on quite a show for the crowd in San Diego. That's 40 minutes down, 40 to go.

Jiuta Wainiqolo Nearly Scores; 26-5

The referee went to TMO to check the try attempt. Wainiqolo loses the ball, and there is a knock-on in the in-goal area.

Halftime should begin shortly.

Fiji Doing Well Going Down Wings

When Fiji has found a way to get out to the flanks, they have done great against the All Blacks' defenders.

Ratima Breaks Free, Rolled With Tackle

Cortez Ratima is injured after breaking free with a long run into Fiji territory. He was slung into a tackle that made him land on his shoulder. Ratima is looked at for a time, then comes off the field.

Debutant Noah Hotham comes on to record his first cap for the All Blacks.

Savea Scores All Blacks' Fourth Try; 26-5

Ardie Savea, who is one of the best players in the world, scores another try for the All Blacks. It's only about seven minutes from halftime, but this game is quite close to getting out of hand for Fiji.

Damian McKenzie converts the kick.

Fiji Pinned At 5-Meter Line

After a knock-on by Fiji, the All Blacks and the Flying Fijians are in a scrum close to the try line.

NZ is too powerful in the scrum and gains possession on a lineout.

Proctor Scores In First Cap; 19-5

Billy Proctor, who made his debut appearance today for New Zealand, scores for the All Blacks. Proctor slid through the try line while being tackled.

Damian McKenzie misses a tough conversion.

This is the All Blacks' third try of the game in just under 30 minutes.

Botitu Scores For Fiji; 14-5

Beautiful play from Fiji. Kicked ahead to Semi Radradra, before he offloaded to Vilimoni Botitu for the score. Kick is missed.

Hard to believe this ball made it into the hands of Botitu.

Fiji Advancing In NZ End Of Field

Fiji made inroads against the New Zealand defense, quickly getting up the field, before a penalty on the All Blacks.

The crowd here in San Diego appreciated the effort from the Flying Fijians.

Clarke Has An NFL Arm 🏈

For what it's worth, Caleb Clarke, who scored the first try of the day for the All Blacks, has shown off his throwing arm before.

Cortez Ratima Scores Second All Blacks Try; 14-0

Within just a few minutes, the New Zealand All Blacks strike for the second time. The ball hardly left Fiji's end of the field between the scores.

Damian McKenzie converts the kick.

All Blacks Score First Try; 7-0

Caleb Clarke takes the ball past the try line and puts the first points on the board for the All Blacks.

Damien McKenzie converts the kick.

All Blacks Making Progress; 4'

New Zealand crashed up the field. Making the most progress of the game so far, for either team, before the ball was coughed up.

Stoppage in play now for a penalty.

Fiji, All Blacks Feeling Out The Game

Both teams are kicking back and forth, with one ball from the All Blacks nearly rolling past the try line. Luckily for Fiji, the ball hit the pole of the upright.

All Blacks Visited San Diego In 1980

It has been over 40 years since the New Zealand All Blacks played in San Diego. In 1980, the All Blacks visited for an unofficial match against the USA. The All Blacks defeated the Eagles that day, 53-6.

Though the USA rugby team had been around for awhile, it was still in its infancy in the 1980s. The Eagles made their first Rugby World Cup appearance in 1987.

Six Debuts For All Blacks

FloRugby expert Philip Bendon wrote earlier this week about the uncapped players added to the All Blacks squad before their San Diego bout with Fiji.

New Zealand head coach Scott Robertson has named six debutants for his side’s upcoming clash with Fiji in San Diego on Friday evening.

Of the six potential debutants, just one will start, as highly touted Hurricanes center Billy Proctor gets the nod in the No. 13 shirt outside of the experienced Anton Lienart-Brown.

While Proctor is guaranteed to earn his first cap, provided he doesn’t pick a training injury before kickoff, the other five potential debutants of George Bell, Pasilio Tosi, Sam Darry, Wallace Sititi and Noah Hotham all will hope Robertson calls their names later in the contest.
