Mike Friday's USA sevens team secured its place in the 2024 Summer Olympics quarterfinals as the top-ranked third-place team courtesy of a draw with host France and a victory over Uruguay.

In between these two results,  the United States lost to reigning champion Fiji but still managed to edge out Samoa for the final knockout spot.

Next up for Friday's squad will be a clash with an undefeated Australian side that topped Pool B following wins over Argentina, Samoa and Kenya.

The United States' squad has veteran Perry Baker to thank for its place in the knockouts, as the speedster scored four tries to sink Uruguay in what was one of the most impressive individual displays of the pool stage.

The quarterfinal match with Australia will be Thursday at 9.30 p.m. local time (4.30 p.m. Eastern).
