South Africa Springboks Vs. Australia Wallabies Live Updates, Scores Recap

The Springboks opened Round 1 of The Rugby Championship against the Wallabies at Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane. Here's the recap, including live updates.

The Springboks defeated the Australia Wallabies in Brisbane for the first time since 2013. 

South Africa allowed the Wallabies to score only a single try in the 76th minute, as they battered the home side at Suncorp Stadium. The final score was 33-7 in favor of the Springboks. 

Dropped balls and handling errors got the best of the Wallabies, who showed some progress in the second half, before the Springboks put them away. It is the first defeat the Wallabies have suffered under new gaffer Joe Schmidt. 

Fly-half Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu was pure quality in his first start for the Springboks. He did miss two kicks but converted three and had a try assist. His efforts likely will not show up on the stat sheet, but the young No. 10 proved his worth. 

The Springboks are looking to take back the Rugby Championship title, something they haven't claimed since 2019, as New Zealand has won four consecutive titles.

Australia with a valiant effort to score a try mere moments before halftime. It was their best work of the entire game thus far. 

Springboks look all-around strong. Feinberg-Mngomezulu has three conversions and assisted a try. He's been even more involved than will show up on the stat sheet.

Late Push From Wallabies Before Halftime

The Wallabies are pressing for a try before halftime. Only about 30 seconds left, but they are 10 meters away.

Arendse Scores Try For Springboks; 21-0

Deft movement from Kurt-Lee Arendse as he wiggled his way through Australian defenders for the try.

The Wallabies looked shocked, and possibly exhausted, after doing fairly well at keeping the Springboks out of the in-goal area for the last 10 minutes.

After some early back-and-forth, South Africa have maintained possession or kept the ball in the Australian end. 

A few close calls have been averted by great Wallaby tackling.

Erasmus just confirmed there have been a few last-minute changes to the Springboks starting lineup. 

Pieter-Steph du Toit will move to No. 5 lock replaying RG Snyman, who will not play due to injury. 

Ben Jason-Dixon will start at flanker. Salmaan Moerat will be a substitute.

Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu Starts For Springboks

The promising Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu will make his first start for South Africa at fly-half, ahead of Handre Pollard. Rugby fans will want to keep their eye on the young No. 10, who might just serve as a glimpse into the future of South African rugby. 

Feinberg-Mngomezulu kicking abilities have also been lauded. 

Currently, he plays club ball for the DHL Stormers and recently signed a new contract with the Cape Town outfit.


Carlo Tizzano Makes Debut For Wallabies

Carlo Tizzano will make his debut as an openside flanker for the Wallabies backrow. The 24-year-old replaces Fraser McReight who is out injured. 

Tizzano plays club rugby for Western Force.


Springboks Haven't Won In Brisbane Since 2013

South Africa has won the last two matchups against Australia, dating back to the second leg of the 2022 Rugby Championship. 

However, the Springboks haven't defeated the Wallabies in Brisbane since 2013. Before that, a South Africa squad hadn't beaten Australia in Brisbane since 1971.

The Wallabies will certainly hope to keep that streak alive.
