Friday night in Cardiff city is a raucous place to be at the best of times, from the jam-packed pubs to the university students hitting the clubs, the Welsh capital is a hub of activity.

When one adds in the reigning URC champions coming to town to face the undefeated home side, Cardiff becomes the only city for rugby fans to tune into.

As the air of anticipation ahead of kick-off intensified, a level of expectancy in the crowd began to swell.

Coming out hot, the reigning champions would pour a nice bucket of ice-cold water on the passionate home fans as they claimed their first try inside the opening five minutes through scrumhalf Jamie Dobie. Adding the extra two points courtesy of a well-taken conversion, flyhalf Tom Jordan claimed a foothold in a match that he would go on to dominate.

Tom Jordan Is The URC Player Of The Week

Slotting two penalties, five conversions and scoring two tries whilst pulling the strings with masterful efficiency, the New Zealand-born playmaker sent a clear message to Scotland head coach Gregor Townsend that he is a genuine contender for Finn Russell’s number ten shirt.

Speaking earlier this year about his ambitions to play for Scotland, Jordan was rather coy about the whole situation.

“I’ve been asked that a lot to be fair!” he acknowledged. “I seem to have come over at the right date [to qualify for the autumn internationals]. But we’ll just see what happens. I need to be still playing here and playing the best I can.

“[Becoming qualified] is still a while away. Obviously, I’ve thought about it when people have asked me, but whatever happens will happen. Once I’ve qualified, I’ll think about what’s going on. But it’s still so far away.

“When I first came over, I didn’t think I would ever have to worry about becoming Scottish qualified! I’ll have to wait to see and go with the flow. There’s no point thinking about it right now. My full focus is on Glasgow and winning the URC. That’s the main aim.”

Now closing in on this eligibility, it will be interesting to see if Jordan joins his fellow Antipodean teammate Sione Tuipulotu in making the switch to the navy blue shirt.

Back to the Friday night action, Jordan would close his account with a whopping 127 meters made from 7 carries with 3-line breaks sprinkled in for good measure.

Defensively, Jordan had some big tackles when Cardiff was coming back into the contest, but on the whole, his best work was done with the ball in hand.

This performance has left us at FloRugby with no choice but to name him our player of the week for round three.
