Amongst the clear contenders, just three teams appear to be truly reliable candidates, with unbeaten Leinster leading the one-loss Glasgow Warriors and Vodacom Bulls on the table.
Behind this trio, it very much is an open season with it all to play for between the other 13 URC teams.
Of this secondary bunch, it is the team that resides in ninth position that looks most likely to challenge the top three, as the Hollywoodbets Sharks reminded the world just how potent they are when all of their Springboks players are available.
Taking down reigning champion Glasgow in Round 5, before taking out Season 2 champion Munster in Round 6, the Eben Etzebeth-led Sharks simply overpowered their visitors.
Leading from the front with a brutal intensity that sets the standard for his team, Etzebeth is the type of leader who galvanizes those around him to perform at their best.
Linking up with his best friend and international captain, Siya Kolisi, to form a dynamic leadership tandem, Etzebeth appears to be playing some of his best rugby in his 13th season of professional rugby.
Completing 15 tackles, four line-out wins and five carries to go with his outlandishly physical work at the breakdown, the giant lock was the best player in the URC this week.
At 6-foot-9 and 126 kilograms, Etzebeth’s ability to push for the full 80 minutes belies his physical stature and makes his showing all the more impressive.
With this performance in the bag, Etzebeth is the FloRugby Player of the Week for Round 6 of the BKT United Rugby Championship.
