All Blacks Stun Ireland Rugby In Dublin

The New Zealand All Blacks stunned host Ireland for the second year in a row, this time in Dublin.

The No. 1 team in the world faces the No. 3 team, as Ireland Rugby welcomes the New Zealand All Blacks to Dublin for a match in the 2024 Autumn Nations Series at 3:10 p.m. on Nov. 8. 

The match between the two nations is the first since the All Blacks stunned Ireland in the quarterfinals of the 2023 Rugby World Cup in France. 

The All Blacks beat the Irish 28-24, preventing Ireland from reaching its first Rugby World Cup semifinal in a year where they beat South Africa in pool play and were ranked No. 1 in the world. 

But that was more than a year ago, and Ireland has climbed back to the No. 1 spot in the World Rugby rankings, narrowly leading the rankings over the Springboks, who face England at 3:10 p.m. on Nov. 9. 

Can Ireland, captained by FloRugby's No.2-ranked player in the world, Caelan Doris of Leinster Rugby, exact revenge on the All Blacks, led by the No. 5-ranked player from Moana Pasifika in Ardie Savea?

Full Time! New Zealand Wins!

That was eerily similar to the Rugby World Cup quarterfinal, as New Zealand put the clamps on Ireland to secure a win. 

While both sides scored one try, it was Ireland's lack of discipline that was costly, as Damian McKenzie racked up the points from the kicking tee. 

The All Blacks remain undefeated in the Autumn Nations Series, and Ireland looks like a shell of the side that beat the Springboks in July. No doubt, Farrell's side will get better with more playing time, but questions will be asked about the veteran players.

Ireland looked for all money to be building something special there, but once again, it is Ardie Savea who stands up tall and wins the penalty.

Can Will Jordan continue his marvelous record against Ireland with yet another try? The All Blacks fullback has scored a try every time he has faced the men in green. McKenzie misses the conversion IRE 13 NZL 23.

Penalty New Zealand! 64th Minute

Ireland really is getting on the wrong side of the match officials here. This time, it is Henderson with a high shot on McKenzie, who slots the penalty. IRE 13 - NZL 18.

The boos rain down around the Aviva Stadium, as Ireland got a big shove on at scrum time and looked set to win the penalty, before referee Nic Berry changed his mind. 

McKenzie slots it, and New Zealand leads once again. IRE 13 - NZL 15.

Replacement Ireland!

That was nasty! Ireland's Tom O'Toole lasts just two minutes on the pitch, before departing for a HIA (Head Injury Assessment). Finlay Bealham returns to the action. Hopefully, O'Toole will be OK, but that did not look great.

Ireland is penalized a breakdown infringement, and McKenzie misses the shot at goal, as Ireland makes a quadruple substitution with Ciaran Frawley, Iain Henderson, Rob Herring and Tom O'Toole coming on. 

Jack Crowley, who has had a mixed day, will be frustrated to depart with his last act being a needless knock-on.

Ireland wins a midfield scrum, as Jordie Barrett returns to action, along with Cam Roigard, who replaces Cortez Ratima at scrumhalf.

The All Blacks once again come through with some fortune, as Ireland turns over the ball and looks to break, before Ardie Savea pulls off a world-class penalty! 

McKenzie slots the penalty, despite the ball falling off the kicking tee. IRE 13 - NZL 12.

Jeez, that was a narrow escape for the All Blacks, as Will Jordan goes quickly at the line-out to Damian McKenzie, who gets caught by the Irish defense, before offloading to Jordan, who is smashed by James Lowe, and Ireland comes piling in! 

New Zealand won a penalty, but that was a risky moment for the All Blacks. 

TRY! Ireland! Josh van der Flier! 42nd Minute

That's more like it from the green machine! 

Clearly, the message at halftime was to straighten up and run at the All Blacks! 

Ireland does just that, and Van der Flier claims the first try of the match. Crowley's conversion is good, and Ireland leads! IRE 13 - NZL9.

5m Scrum Ireland!

The All Blacks do a sterling job of halting the Irish maul and turning over the ball, but Sam Cane is dragged back over his line by Joe McCarthy and friends to win Ireland a big-time scrum. This is the biggest moment of the match thus far.

Second Half!

Ireland starts off perfectly with an immediate penalty, as the All Blacks seal off the ruck, and Ireland goes for the corner. 

Word comes through that Barrett's yellow card will remain just that, and he will be back in 10 minutes. 

Halftime Report

What a truly intriguing first half. 

On one hand, the All Blacks have looked dangerous but have not quite found the magic formula to break through. 

Ireland, on the flipside, has defended ferociously, albeit they have conceded several penalties they would not normally leak. 

In attack, the home side has had very limited opportunities but has got over the gainline only to squander the final ball. 

We are set up for a grandstand finish in this one, folks, as the latest chapter in this fascinating rivalry is far from written.

That's more like it from the home side, which barges over the gainline through Bundee Aki. The All Blacks defense parts like the Red Sea. 

The Kiwis scramble well, but Jordie Barrett puts in a high shot on Garry Ringrose and is heading to the sin bin. 

Ireland will have a man advantage for the next 10 minutes, as Crowley slots the penalty. IRE 6 - NZL 9 

And, that is halftime folks!

Ireland continues to concede unnecessary penalties, and McKenzie once again is pinpoint from the kicking tee. IRE 3 - NZL 9.

Ireland has been immensely sloppy with the little possession the team has had, making unforced errors and letting the All Blacks off the hook. 

On the converse, the All Blacks have looked lethal when they've had the ball and look likely to shred through the Irish defense at a moment's notice.

Ireland gets a rare piece of possession and capitalizes, as Crowley finds a beautiful touch just outside the All Blacks' 5m line. All of the pressure is on Ronan Kelleher to find his jumpers.

The Irish concede a silly penalty, having defended for their lives, and McKenzie makes no mistakes. IRE 3 - NZL 6.

Disaster For The All Blacks!

After all of their good work, the throw is not straight, and it'll be an Irish scrum. These are big moments in matches like these, folks.

McKenzie goes for the corner here. The All Blacks feel they have the ascendancy and want to strike.

These two heavyweights are slugging it out, and neither side is willing to give an inch. 

Ireland wins a penalty, and Crowley kicks for touch to set up a line-out on the New Zealand 10m line; Tadhg Beirne wins the ball, and Ireland attacks. Unfortunately, it all comes to nothing for the Irish, as New Zealand wins a turnover penalty.

What an incredible passage of play! 

New Zealand looks threatening, as the All Blacks always do, but Ireland has put in some huge tackles, namely on Ioane, who clearly is target No. 1 this evening. 

Tadhg Beirne knocks on while attempting a jackal, which is a New Zealand scrum.

It is Ireland's turn to get caught for crossing, and James Lowe claims the high ball. McKenzie goes for touch. 

This pressure has come from Ireland's misfiring line-out, which was a theme during the Rugby World Cup quarterfinal loss.

BUST UP! 

And we have the first heated exchange of the evening, as Joe McCarthy gets stuck into the All Blacks following Irish pressure, which hands Ireland a scrum. 

All Blacks captain Scott Barrett took exception to McCarthy's enjoyment in the All Blacks mistake. 

Ireland wins a free kick from the scrum in the first piece of superiority tonight in that department. Crowley goes skyward, but Jordan handles it well and clears it for touch.

Ireland's powerhouse center had a perfect gap in front of him but dropped it cold! We go for another scrum!

Cortez Ratima races away following a fumble, which was not adjudged to have gone forward. This came just after Bundee Aki smashed Ioane in the tackle. Damian McKenzie slots the three points! It's all square once again. IRE 3 - NZL 3.

Taking full advantage of World Rugby's new kick marshalling laws, Mack Hansen appeals for a block, as Reiko Ioane blocks him from competing with Caleb Clarke. Jack Crowley slots the three points! IRE 3 - NZL 0.

The First Attack

Ireland launched the first of what will be many attacks tonight; interestingly, the Irish are looking to play the ball out the back early from their forward pods. Of the backs, Bundee Aki is heavily involved, before a knock on brings play to a halt.

When Does The 2024-2025 Investec Champions Cup Begin? When Is The Champions Cup Final?

The Investec Champions Cup and the EPCR Challenge Cup begin on Dec. 6 and the four-round pool play action ends on Jan. 19, 2025. The Round of 16 starts on April 4, while the quarterfinals are April 11-13 and the semifinals are May 2-4.
