Ireland Vs. Argentina Rugby Lineups, Kickoff Time

Ireland hosts Argentina rugby in Dublin for another highly anticipated 2024 Autumn Nations test. Here's what to know about the Nov. 15 match.

One week after Ireland were upset by New Zealand All Blacks at Aviva Stadium, the site will once again by the venue for the Irish taking on another Southern Hemisphere foe, Argentina

Los Pumas and Ireland will compete for the first time since the 2021 Autumn Nations, when Argentina visited Aviva for a 53-7 walloping. Sam Prendergast, the much-lauded Irish No. 10, was only 18 the last time these two teams met. This time he'll be making his debut as a replacement.

Prendergast is one of three "next-generation" fly-halfs, an embarrassment of riches for the Irish.

For their part, Argentina are coming off a very successful Rugby Championship campaign, where they took third-place and upset South Africa.

Here's what to know about the Ireland vs. Argentina match on Nov. 15:

Full-Time!

Ireland squeeze by for the win! A fantastic first half got them home but the second half will be giving Andy Farrell sleepless nights! The breakdown was a disaster, the line-out didn't work, and composure under pressure remains a huge question mark. Argentina are a force and will be kicking themselves for not taking this one. In the end, a knock-on costs them following a superb break from a scrappy breakdown, almost had them home, but in the end, it was not to be for Felipe Contepomi's men. What a test match! Ireland 22 - Argentina 19.

PENALTY!

Ireland's breakdown has been an unmitigated disaster. In this breakdown, Ireland looks like breaking through, only to get turned over once again. Argentina kick for touch and have another chance to take this...

Yellow Card! Francisco Gomez Kodela!

Argentina will be down a man for the final five minutes as replacement tighthead Kodela targets Caelan Doris with a shot to the head at the breakdown.

Ruck Issues!

The Irish breakdown has become a real weak point in this second half, Jamie Osborne made a superb half break but once again he was isolated as the Irish pack struggled to get up to him.

Puma Pride!

Another huge defensive stand from Argentina as they deny Ireland who go through double-digit phases before being turned over. Prendergast came close to sliding through but ultimately he became isolated as his pack looked tired and couldn't get there to support him,

Irish Record Equalled!

Cian Healy trots onto the pitch for cap number 133 as he equals the great Brian O'Driscoll as the most-capped Irish international of all time. What innings from the dynamic loosehead who still delivers the goods at 37 years old.

Tension In The Air

This test match has been a firm tale of two halves, with Ireland dominating the first half whilst Argentina has been the better side in the second. Ireland gain a huge scrum penalty through new man Clarkson who has been very good since coming on for Finlay Bealham. Could we be seeing Ireland's next key tighthead? Andy Farrell will certainly be hoping so.

Big Moment For Irish Rugby Here!

Sam Prendergast comes on for his debut as he replaces Jack Crowley, who was supreme for the first fifty minutes but has gone off the boil a little bit over the past ten minutes. For those unaware of Prendergast, he has been regarded as quite possibly the best U20 player in the world over the past few years.

Sin-Bin Over!

Ireland is back to a full complement as McCarthy returns to the pitch, Argentina is making several substitutions, and Ireland so far has just brought on Thomas Clarkson.

PENALTY!

Ireland hit double digits in penalties conceded as Jack Crowley clatters into Tomos Albornoz, and Argentine is firmly in the ascendancy here.

Yellow Card! Joe McCarthy!

Ireland's second yellow card of the match, and it's Joe McCarthy who goes to the bin, and Albornoz slots the penalty! Argentina are back within three points. This is where Ireland will find what kind of team they are... IRE 22 - ARG 19.

TRY! Argentina! Min 45!

Strong defence by Ireland is undone by a moment of magic from Juan Cruz Mallia who slides through multiple Irish defenders to get his team's first try of the evening! Albornoz slots the conversion from right in front and the Pumas are right back in this! IRE 22 - ARG 16.

Second Half

We are back underway with Argentina kicking-off, Robbie Henshaw takes the ball and Jamison Gibson-Park kicks long to take play back into Los Pumas' territory.

Half-Time!

That was HUGE from the Irish! They have just withstood the best part of 10 ten minutes of Argentine pressure to end the half as they win a turnover and kick to touch. This is the Ireland side many expected to show up against the All Blacks last week. This performance confirmed that Ireland was rusty last week, and Andy Farrell once again proved that he could get his team back on track in a double quick time. Argentina, on the other hand, have been good but simply cannot handle the Irish physicality at the breakdown. Putting together some good phases in close as they look to offset Ireland's quick line speed, Los Pumas pack made some yard before eventually being halted. It will be interesting to see what adjustments they make at half-time. For Ireland, Jack Crowley has returned to the form that saw him capture the imagination in the Six Nations, whilst the pack has been as physical as the day they took down the Springboks in Durban.

Brutal Defence!

Argentina are picking and going, picking and going and you guess it picking and going! Ireland have yet to crack but Los Pumas are backing their maul here as they go for the corner. Tadhg Beirne was superb in holding up Julian Montoya, but Los Pumas is going again.

TRY! Ireland! Min 31!

Big Joe McCarthy capitalises with a power run through Argentina's defence! McCarthy took the line-out and worked hard to become an option. This effort is rewarded with a try that Crowley converts! IRE 22 - ARG 9.

Heroic Defence!

Ireland looked for all money like they were going to score again but Los Pumas snuff it out with fierce defence! Ireland are still in a strong attacking spot

PENALTY! Min 26

Ronan Kelleher gets his timing wrong as he runs in front of Joe McCarthy, blocking Pablo Matera, and so it is a penalty to Los Pumas. Albornoz makes no mistake from 40 meters out. IRE 15 - ARG 9.

Thomas Clarkson Makes His Debut!

What a moment for the 24-year-old Leinster tighthead who comes on for a scrum with Finlay Bealham in the sin-bin. What a promising prospect but this is as tough as it gets for your first taste of test rugby! A scrum down a man! Ireland won a free kick as Argentina engaged early.

DROP GOAL! Jack Crowley!

This is the Jack Crowley Irish fans hoped to see a week ago! Ireland butcher a line-out attempt once again, and Argentina looked to be in the ascendancy! Crowley shows his composure and nails a drop goal from 40 meters out to get his team more than a score ahead! IRE 15 - ARG 6.

YELLOW CARD! PENALTY! Min 16

Ireland tighthead Finlay Bealham is sent to the sin bin for a croc roll on Los Pumas prop Joel Sclavi. The Pumas prop really demonstrated to the referees who went back to have a look at it. Argentina go for a goal, and Albornoz nails it! We are back within a score at the Aviva Stadium. IRE 12 - ARG 6.

TMO Decision - NO TRY! Ireland

Oh no Tadhg Beirne! The Ireland backfow finishes off a superb attack but just knocks the ball on as he crashes over the line! It will be a goal line drop out to Argentina.

PENLATY! Argentina Min 11

We have had the first scrum, and it was pretty even. Argentina went through a few phases, but the Irish defence blitzs them, forcing a knock-on! Robbie Henshaw is penalised for a breakdown offence so Argentina go for posts. Moroni will return in the next minute or so with his yellow card remaining yellow and not being upgraded. Tomos Albornoz drills the penalty, and Argentina are on the board. IRE 12 - ARG 3.

TRY! Ireland! - Min 5

This is vintage Ireland! Speed, intensity and precision! Mack Hansen finishes off an end-to-end move from Ireland following a powerful burst from Robbie Henshaw down the right flank before the ball finds its way to the left flank, where Tadhg Beirne unselfishly passes back inside to Hansen! Crowley just misses the conversion! IRE 12 - ARG 0.

TRY! Ireland! - Min 3

Jack Crowley is fired up as he steps his way over the line for the first try of the match! A great score from the Munster star who capitalists on a powerful few phases from his pack. Crowley knocks the conversion over! IRE 7 - ARG 0.

NO - TRY! We Are Going Back!

The try is wiped off the board as Matias Moroni is sent to the sin-bin for a high shot on Jack Crowley. This is cruel for Moroni who scored the try but the incident was key in getting a turnover for Argentina which they subsequently scored from. Crowley nudges the ball into the corner and it is an Irish line-out 5m out.

TRY! Argentina! - Min 2.

Ireland have come out in dominant form as they pin Argentina back only to undo all of the good work and Argentina go the length of the pitch to dot down against the run of play!

The Anthems Are Complete

Ireland looks focused, Argentina looks excited, and this match is shaping up to be a cracking contest.
