Glasgow Warriors Ready For Champions Cup

The United Rugby Championship returns for Round 7 on Nov. 29 with two matches, and the rest on Nov. 30, as clubs get some domestic league action before starting Round 1 of the Investec Champions Cup and EPCR Challenge Cup competetions on Dec. 6.

The round features several Rugby Derbies, including in Ireland and South Africa.

All eyes will be on Durban as the Hollywoodbets Sharks host the DHL Stormers, and the Cape Town power looks to start turning the season around against a hot Sharks team. In Belfast, Ulster hosts top team Leinster.

Here are the Lineups in Round 7:

Glasgow Warriors head coach Franco Smith said: “We’re pleased to be back at home tomorrow night, as we look to hit the ground running in the second block of our season.

"The Scarlets have been in good form this season, and their mix of dynamic forwards and exciting backs can cause problems from anywhere on the field.

"We’re also pleased to include Fin, Jare and Macenzzie in our matchday squad for the first time. All three have worked hard to earn their opportunity, and we look forward to seeing them in action tomorrow night.”

Scarlets Head Coach Dwayne Peel said: “Glasgow are a team who play with high energy, high speed and it is a case of ‘expect the unexpected’ with them. It is going to be a big challenge for us, but one we are excited about, to go and see where we are at, going up against the champions on a fast track.

"We have spoken about using the opportunity and using the energy and having a go at them. I feel we have used the last month really well, the boys have applied themselves, worked hard and are ready for the start of another big block of matches with Europe to come followed by a couple of Welsh derbies.”

Ulster Vs. Leinster Rugby Lineups

Kingspan Stadium, Belfast

  • Referee: Eoghan Cross (IRFU, 23rd league game)
  • AR 1: Andrew Cole (IRFU)  AR 2: Andrew Fogarty (IRFU)
  • TMO: Leo Colgan (IRFU)

Replacements: Lee Barron, Michael Milne, Rory McGuire, RG Snyman, James Culhane, Fintan Gunne, Harry Byrne, Scott Penny

Leinster head coach Leo Cullen said: "If you think back to when we used to play in PRO12, you would have had 11 home and 11 away games — so 22 games — whereas now, you have 18 regular-season games.

"It doesn't sound like a huge amount, but four games over the course of a season is quite a chunk to take out. I know there's another playoff game that would replace some of that. But even in Europe, there used to be six Champions Cup pool games, now there's four regular pool games and one extra playoff game. It's more geared towards playoffs and less around the regular season games, so there's a little bit less margin for error when it comes to seedings later in the season.

"If you think, we lost our two regular-season games against Ulster, and if you win one of those games, then you don't have to travel to South Africa for a semifinal. We need to make sure we understand the importance of every point."

"There is always a sense of excitement around derby matches, and the boys are itching to get back out there in front of their supporters. We are expecting another big crowd at the Arms Park, and that passionate, home support can make a real difference to the boys on the pitch”

Dragons RFC interim head coach Filo Tiatia said: “Local derby games are special. I remember facing Cardiff when I played for the Ospreys, and they're special games. Players have an opportunity to face a local rival just up the road, so it’s exciting”

Connacht head coach Pete Wilkins says: “The Bulls will be a massive challenge, but one we’re looking forward to.

"They’ve got quality across the field and have that typical South African mix of strength in the forwards and speed in the backs. That said we’ve had a really positive few weeks since our last game and can welcome back a few players from injury and international duty, so we’re in a good spot overall.”

Vodacom Bulls Director of Rugby Jake White said: “Playing away, you get the crowd behind their home team, the wind factor, a 4-G pitch we have not played on in a long time. These are all factors we have to account for.

"Playing Connacht in Connacht is a tough gig for any team. They are a team that is always in the top 8, and they never give anything away.

"Playing away will always be difficult, wherever you play will always be difficult, and this is an even more difficult place because of the conditions. Wind is a big factor here because of the way the stadium is situated and that influences the game strategy.”

Zebre Parma head coach Massimo Brunello said: "We are facing this match after a long break, so we want to put in a good performance.

"We played well, especially at home, and we want to bounce back. The players are in good shape and ready. The friendly match against Benetton was also useful to get back into rhythm, so I think this match comes at the right time.

"I hope we will face a game where we can play our style, dynamic and in space. They are an experienced, solid and pragmatic team, one that heavily relies on the indiscipline of their opponents and capitalizes on drives in dangerous areas. For this reason, we need to field a disciplined yet aggressive defense, to avoid giving them the opportunity to put us under pressure. This year, they’ve had two impressive wins against Edinburgh and the Stormers, and last year, they reached the playoffs: they are definitely an opponent to be taken seriously."

Ospreys head coach Toby Booth said: “There’s not a lot between a lot of the teams in the BKT URC, Zebre have always given us a tough game in recent years. They will be full of enthusiasm, and like many games, this one will be about how each team applies themselves on the day.”

Edinburgh Rugby Vs. Benetton Lineups

Hive Stadium, Edinburgh

  • Referee: Ben Breakspear (WRU, 5th league game)

Replacements: Agustin Creevy, Destiny Aminu, Tiziano Pasquali, Jadin Kingi, Simon Koroiyadi, Lautaro Bazan Velez, Leonardo Marin, Louis Lynagh

Edinburgh Rugby Head Coach Sean Everitt said: “It’s great to be back to BKT URC action after the international break, playing in front of our fans at Hive Stadium. Our recent matches against Benetton have been tight affairs, and I’m expecting another big test against them on Saturday.”

Benetton head coach Marco Bortolami said: “The lineup is the result of the rotation of the team after the test matches in November. Some players who have had less minutes with the national team have been included in the 23, while the others have had to rest.

"We go with a competitive team and ready to do battle in Edinburgh at their home. It will take a complete performance: Edinburgh are very solid up front, they have a similar style of play to the South African teams, and this year, coach Everitt has given an even more decisive imprint in this sense. The forwards will have to do a great job, but we all know the quality they have in the backs line. It will take a 360-degree test"
