Cian Healy officially became Ireland’s all-time leading caps holder Saturday evening, taking the field for his 134th international appearance during Ireland’s clash with Australia at Aviva Stadium.

The 37-year-old prop surpassed the legendary Brian O’Driscoll, cementing his place as one of the nation’s rugby greats.

Named on the bench, Healy entered the match in the second half to rapturous applause from the Dublin crowd, marking another chapter in a storied career that began against the same opponents in 2009.

Reflecting on the milestone, Ireland coach Andy Farrell said before the game, “Cian is a giant of Irish rugby, and we wanted to deliver a performance worthy of his contribution.”

The occasion was steeped in history and symmetry.

Healy’s international journey began 15 years ago against the Wallabies in a 20-20 draw. Over the years, Australia has remained a significant backdrop for his career highlights, including his man-of-the-match performance in Ireland’s famous 15-6 victory at the 2011 Rugby World Cup. That night, Healy dominated the Australian scrum and delivered a defining turnover in the game’s final moments.

Veteran Wallabies prop James Slipper, who started opposite Healy and now boasts 143 caps himself, paid tribute to his opponent before the match.

“He’s well-respected across the world," Slipper said. "It’s a huge achievement, and I’m sure it’s a special night for him and his family.".

Ireland captain Caelan Doris also highlighted Healy’s dedication to preparation and recovery, which has allowed him to excel deep into his career.

Healy’s record-breaking appearance was met with cheers and admiration, a fitting tribute to a player whose longevity and impact have made him a true Irish rugby legend.
