England fly-half Marcus Smith has reaffirmed his commitment to Harlequins, signing a new deal that will keep him at the Twickenham-based club until at least 2028.

The 25-year-old, who has 41 international caps and 284 points for England, has become a pivotal figure for both club and country. Fresh from starting all four of England’s autumn internationals, Smith’s decision provides a significant boost to Harlequins as they build for the future.

“I love the club. It’s given me and my family a lot over the years, and I’m excited about what lies ahead,” Smith said. “Every time I come into the training ground, I see the talent we have, and I’m thrilled to be part of it.”

A product of the Harlequins academy, Smith debuted for the club in September 2017 against London Irish at Twickenham. Since then, he has amassed 166 appearances and scored an impressive 1,505 points, including 199 during a standout debut season. Smith was also integral to Harlequins’ Premiership-winning campaign in 2020-21.

Smith emphasized the club’s emphasis on nurturing homegrown talent: “We’ve always prided ourselves on developing players from within, and fans will see even more of that in the seasons ahead.”

Smith’s re-signing follows a flurry of contract extensions at Harlequins, with vice-captain Cadan Murley and flanker Will Evans among the ten players recently pledging their futures to the club. The length of these deals has not been disclosed, but Smith’s long-term commitment underscores the club’s ambitions.

Internationally, Smith’s rise has been meteoric. After making his England debut in July 2021 against the USA, he played a key role in the 2023 Rugby World Cup, helping England secure third place. Though initially facing competition for the fly-half role, his standout performances this autumn solidified his place as England’s first-choice No. 10.

Smith’s buccaneering style is a perfect fit for Harlequins’ attacking philosophy, making him one of the Premiership’s most exciting talents. The club is seventh in the Premiership table, with Smith’s influence key to their hopes of climbing higher.

“Playing at The Stoop is special,” Smith said. “The fans’ love and support mean everything to me, and I can’t wait to achieve more dreams with my teammates.”

This deal signals Harlequins’ intent to remain a force in English rugby, with Smith at the heart of their ambitions.
