Unlike subjective rankings that rely solely on reputation or recent form, we have utilized an in-house formula designed to produce consistent, data-driven results. Our model takes into account a variety of factors, including domestic league performance, continental success, home and away form and other key factors.
As the season progresses, the race for domestic and international silverware intensifies, with clubs battling for supremacy in competitions like the Investec Champions Cup, the United Rugby Championship, Super Rugby and the Gallagher Premiership. Some teams maintain their dominance, while others emerge as rising forces, pushing the traditional powerhouses to their limits.
So, without further ado, let’s dive into our latest rankings and see which teams have proven themselves worthy of a spot among the elite in professional rugby.
1.Toulouse | N/A
Having 140 points scored in three weeks, with just 45 points conceded, shows just how far ahead of the chasing pack the reigning champs are right now.
Frighteningly for the rest of the Top 14, Toulouse is just three weeks away from welcoming back its international stars from the Guinness Six Nations.
2. Leinster | N/A
A 12th consecutive URC victory, means the Irish side has gone 16 matches unbeaten to start this season. Let that sink in…

3. Chiefs | + 1
Three from three and quite clearly the class of the competition, last year’s losing finalists blitzed the Brumbies in the closing stages of Round 3. This result ensured that Clayton McMillan’s side has beaten the perceived three biggest challengers to their title run in consecutive weeks.
4. Union Bordeaux-Begles | + 2
Climbing back up the rankings courtesy of a road victory over Perpignan, coupled with a shock home loss for the Glasgow Warriors. Of the challengers, UBB looks the most likely to be able to challenge Toulouse in 2025.
5. Queensland Reds | + 10
Completing a sparkling start to their campaign with a late victory over the impressive Western Force in the dying moments.
As the clock ticked over into the red, the Queenslanders looked, for all intents and purposes, dead and buried. Showing their quality and belief, Les Kiss’ side went down the pitch and sealed the deal.
6. Bath Rugby | + 1
Moved up due to Glasgow and Toulon’s losses.

7. Toulon | - 4
Slipping up on the road away to Lyon is not the worst result in the world, but it has cost Toulon on both the Top 14 table and our power rankings. Still, we feel confident Toulon will be there, or thereabouts, when the business end of the season approaches.
8. Glasgow Warriors | - 3
Completed a thoroughly un-Warriors-like collapse in the dying stages against the Ospreys.
Having taken the lead with just seconds left on the clock, the reigning URC champions bumbled the kickoff receipt to concede a penalty.
Stepping up to slot the points, Ospreys playmaker Jack Walsh slotted the shot to bring an end to the Warriors' impressive home run.
9. Waratahs | + 13
Another unbeaten Australian side that dug deep in Round 3, the Tahs overcame an impressive show of force from the Fijian Drua to march into our top 10. Overcoming a handful of key injuries, Dan McKellar’s side showcased its squad depth this season.
10. Bristol | N/A
Sitting in the same position as last week, while the teams above and below Bristol have changed.
11. Vodacom Bulls | -2
Dropping out of the top 10 on the back of a narrow home loss to the Stormers, which cost them a top-2 spot on the URC table. Fortunately for Jake White’s side, all of their main competitors also slipped up this week.
12. Gloucester | N/A
Similar to Bristol, the Cherry and Whites stay put, while those around them shuffle.
13. Bayonne | + 1
Climbing one spot following a comprehensive victory over Clermont, Bayonne continues to impress and no doubt will be a playoff side this season.
14. Highlanders | + 2
Back-to-back narrow wins to offset their narrow opening-round loss has the Highlanders sitting in the third position on the Super Rugby Pacific table.
Unearthing a raft of previously unheralded players through the opening three rounds, the Dunedin side is a threat to everybody in the competition.
15. Lyon | + 8
Moving up eight spots courtesy of its win over Toulon, Lyon has one of the most intriguing records this season with eight wins, eight losses, two draws and a +7 points difference. This can viewed as either cutting things fine or making the most of what they have with a good squad that is a tick or two behind the big three of Toulouse, UBB and Toulon.
16. Hollywoodbets Sharks | - 8
Thumped out of the gates, the Sharks were ambushed on the Highveld over the weekend, as the Lions locked in a bonus point one minute into the second half.
This one was done and dusted with half an hour to play, in a fixture that reminded everyone of the Sharks ' up-and-down nature.
17. Emirates Lions | + 10
They've jumped back into our top 25 with back-to-back wins over coastal rivals the Stormers and Sharks.
Seemingly recapturing the magic that saw them race out to a four-match win streak at the beginning of the season, the Lions are a team no side in the URC wants to face in Johannesburg.
Now sitting just one position outside of the top 8, the Lions face four consecutive road fixtures before a home run in of four fixtures.
If they can pick up a road win or two, plus an unbeaten run in at home, they should be in the playoffs.
18. Northampton Saints | N/A
No movement this week.
19. Harlequins | N/A
No movement this week.
20. Leicester Tigers | N/A
No movement this week.
21. Sale Sharks | N/A
No movement this week.
22. Western Force | - 9
Coming unstuck in cruel fashion at home as the Reds stole the results with time expiring, the Force once again looked impressive offensively in Round 3.
Unfortunately, given their leaky defense, their margin for error has been minimal this season. This explains their significant drop in our rankings, with 114 points both scored and conceded.
23. Munster | - 12
Counting its lucky stars that all of the top sides (with the exception of Leinster) lost in this weekend’s URC, Munster fumbled a chance to climb into the top 4.
In truth, Munster was not even close to beating Edinburgh in Round 12 but did enough to claim two losing points, which keeps them in the fifth position.
If Munster ends up boarding a flight to South Africa for the knockouts, this loss, and the inexplicable slip-up against Zebre, will be the reasons why.

24. Ospreys | + 7
Downing the champions in their own backyard takes some doing, and in truth, the Ospreys looked comfortable doing so.
While Jack Walsh will rightly be heralded as the hero, the Ospreys should never have allowed it to be that close.
Still, the Welsh side was at times spectacular at Scotstoun and will back themselves to climb into the top 8 when it is all said and done.
25. Montpellier | + 3
Bumping Saracens out of the top 25, Montpellier is an interesting case this season.
Sitting with a losing record, but a positive points difference, Montpellier is good enough to turn over any team in the Top 14 but also capable of having head-scratching losses.
In Round 18, Montpellier edged Castres to remain just four points behind the fifth-place side.
If things remain this tight, the experienced Montpellier men have the minerals to be the ones to win a fistfight.
