Hosting the Netherlands, Spain and England throughout July will ensure the Eagles are battle-hardened before returning to Pacific Nations Cup action later in the summer.
Concluding their 2025 season, the Eagles already have confirmed they will be renewing their rivalry with Scotland at British Gas Murrayfield in November.
Spearheading the Eagles campaign is head coach Scott Lawrence, who is fresh off presiding over a strong 2024 season, which unearthed several key players who will form the backbone of the squad as they chase qualification for the 2027 Rugby World Cup.
Discussing the upcoming season and the developing depth of his squad, Lawrence spoke to the media yesterday for the Eagles’ season launch.
“First of all, we've never had a more exciting calendar of games than we do this year,” Lawrence said, “That’s massive, and it presents a fun challenge for us - facing these opponents while dealing with the pressure of qualifying for the World Cup.”
Focusing on a shift in mindset for his squad, Lawrence, who was clear throughout the 2024 season that is was about showing growth week on week, left no doubt that 2025 is about taking the next step.
“It opens up different thought processes around selection and how we approach things," he said. "Over the last two years, we've worked hard to bring players like Jack (Iscaro) through, ensuring they understand the expectations of being an international player and representing the Eagles.
“We've interacted with over 50 players who could potentially be selected, giving them valuable experience. This has created a competitive environment, and the best players will be chosen this year.
“This year is all about performance. The years leading up to this were about preparing to perform, but now, our selections, methodology, and overall approach will focus on execution.”
Echoing the sentiments of iconic college football coach Lou Holtz, who said, “The difference between champions and near champions is the ability to play for something outside of self."
Lawrence was clear that only players who display a passion for the Eagles shirt would be considered for future squads.
"Discussions on Europe-based players are ongoing," he added. "We collaborate with professional leagues and individual teams to assess availability. Player eligibility and qualification considerations also factor in. Our priority is dedicated American players who are committed to being part of the Eagles.
“No coach has won a World Cup without being from their home nation, and there’s a reason for that - it takes more than just talent. It’s about passion, commitment and drive.
“When talent and dedication align, those are the players who will represent the Eagles. Selection depends on various factors - talent, fitness, mindset and form at the right moment. It’s an ongoing process throughout the season, and our final squad for July will be named in the first week of June, with playoff performances influencing selections.”
Headlining their intriguing slate of matches throughout the summer is the Washington D.C. clash with a potent England squad.
While Steve Borthwick’s side will be short a few senior players due to the British and Irish Lions tour, Eagles and Old Glory DC loosehead prop Jack Iscaro is under no illusions as to the challenge the Six Nations side will present.
“Regardless of who’s missing, England remains a top-tier team with world-class players," the former Gonzaga College student said. “Their squad is filled with superstars competing at the highest level. Players will be hungry to prove themselves for future tours, so we approach this as facing England’s national team at full strength.”
Echoing his player’s sentiments, Lawrence reiterated how big the fixture will be for both sides.
“I agree with Jack," Lawrence said. "England’s players will be eager to earn future selections, bringing high energy. It’s a capped international test, and everyone involved will give their best. We don’t overthink it - we focus on our job and playing to our highest potential.”
