If Toulouse Rugby can make it five straight years a club from France has won the Investec Champions Cup, and win its third Cup in five years, it’ll likely be the most special one of all. 

The defending champions entered the Investec Champions Cup as the heavy favorite to win it again and went 4-0-0 in pool play, but it was UBB that edged the champs in points to take the top spot in Pool 1. 

Despite the No. 3 seed overall in the bracket, Toulouse probably still was considered the favorite to win it again. After all, the roster had Antoine Dupont, the No. 1 player in the world. What else did you need to know? 

But during the first weekend of March, about a month before the Round of 16, everything changed. Dupont tore his ACL in France’s massive, and eventually decisive, Six Nations win over Ireland. 

Toulouse still features the second-most international players on their club in the field, but the club has not fared well without Dupont this season. 

The Sale Sharks are ready to see just how vulnerable the defending champions are at 10 a.m. ET on April 6 during the Round of 16 of the Champions Cup.

The Sharks finished third in Pool 4, destroying RC Toulon 33-7 in Round 4 to boost their way into the playoffs.

When Do The Investec Champions Cup Playoffs Begin In 2025?

The Investec Champions Cup Playoffs kick off with the Round of 16 on April 4, as the Northampton Saints take on Clermont Rugby. The remaining seven games of the round will be played April 5-6.

The quarterfinals will follow from April 11-13, with a short break until the semifinals on May 2-4.

The Champions Cup Final will take place at Principality Stadium  in Cardiff, Wales, on May 24.
