Ronan O'Gara, widely regarded as one of the greatest players to represent Munster Rugby, and who scored 2,625 points during his legendary career from 1997 to 2013, won’t be wearing Munster's colors this weekend.

That's because O'Gara has established himself as one of the top club rugby coaches in the world, transitioning to coaching and leading La Rochelle to back-to-back Investec Champions Cups in 2022 and 2023.

While there were hints of O'Gara going to Munster, he didn’t leave, and Munster opted for Clayton McMillan, head coach of the Chiefs in Super Rugby and the All Blacks XV coach.

The Irish side, still under interim coach Ian Costello, who's the future general manager, has had a rocky URC season with a 7-0-7 record after finishing with the best record last year.

However, they bounced back in the Champions Cup, finishing third in Pool 3 despite firing coach Graham Rowntree just weeks before the start of the competition.

La Rochelle, on the other hand, finished second in Pool 2 and came heartbreakingly close to beating Leinster, losing 16-14.

The two teams now will face off April 5 at Stade Marcel Delfandre.

When Do The Investec Champions Cup Playoffs Begin In 2025?

The Investec Champions Cup Playoffs kick off with the Round of 16 on April 4, as the Northampton Saints take on Clermont Rugby. The remaining seven games of the round will be played April 5-6.

The quarterfinals will follow from April 11-13, with a short break until the semifinals on May 2-4.

The Champions Cup Final will take place at Principality Stadium  in Cardiff, Wales, on May 24.
