Aviva Premiership Latest: Week 1 Starts
Notes and box scores from Week 1 in the Aviva Premiership.
The Aviva Premiership kicked off with the defending champs losing and tons of scoring over the weekend.
The six games averaged 62 points -- more than 30 per team. And in fact, seven of the 12 teams notched the four-try bonus point.
On Friday, the defending champion Exeter Chiefs came down to earth with a 28-21 loss to Gloucester. A day later, USA flyhalf AJ MacGinty kicked all five of his team's conversions as Sale scored 35... and lost 50-35 to Wasps. Meanwhile, Saracens looked hugely impressive in scoring a 55-24 win over Northampton. On Sunday, Bath went down to 13 men but somehow held off Leicester anyway on the road.

Nick Civetta may not have lined up for Newcastle -- he instead scored in his club's A-league win -- but the North American-heavy Falcons looked very solid in beating Worcester 35-8 on Friday. Newcastle was the only Premiership team to hold an opponent to less than 20 points, but the Falcons picked up some injuries along the way and turned to Canadian prop Jake Ilnicki for help.

This week's top scorer? London Irish fullback Tommy Bell, who scored a try, two conversions, and five penalty goals for 24 points all on his own in a 39-29 over Harlequins. The top try-scorer? Wasps scrumhalf Dan Robson, with four.
