Liberty Challenge Lineup Set As FloRugby To Stream Live
The Liberty Challenge will be streamed live by FloRugby Nov 18.
Sixteen college rugby teams are converging on Fairfield University for the Liberty Challenge on Nov. 18.
The eight bowl games are streaming LIVE on FloRugby and are the culmination of the fall season for these D1 teams, most of which have been playing in the D1A Liberty Conference.
In addition, American International College will join the series to round out the field of 16. Here are the matchups:
Northeastern vs. Cortland
Binghamton vs. UConn
Syracuse vs. URI
AIC vs. Fordham
Delaware vs. Tufts
Albany vs. Fairfield
UMass vs. Stony Brook
Northeastern defeated UConn this past weekend to win the New England Division of the Liberty Conference and finish 5-0. The Maddogs will take on SUNY Cortland, which won the Empire Division with a 5-0 record.
That is one of the top matchups of the day, which features games between teams of similar records. Binghamton, which finished second in the Empire with a 4-1 record, will take on UConn, 4-1 in the New England Division.
Delaware, which finished in the middle of the I-95 Division, will face Tufts, which had a similar finish in the New England.
Also of note is a matchup between AIC against Fordham. AIC went 4-2 with an independent schedule but fell to Notre Dame College and Iona. The Yellow Jackets did not get an invitation to the D1AA playoffs but are looking to win for a third time at a fall postseason game after beating Clemson in the URugby Bowl Series in 2015 and Iona in the URugby Bowl Series in 2016. Fordham finished 3-1 in the I-95 Division.
These games are being played for bragging rights and, for some, perhaps a little redemption. While a handful of these teams will be making their first appearance in a game of this type, others are old hands in this postseason format.
Fairfield University is hosting the event, which is streaming LIVE on FloRugby. For details on how to watch, go here.
