Predict all you want, but making picks for the Liberty Conference Challenge games this weekend won't be easy.

Going into last weekend, you'd expect Fordham to be rolling, but instead maybe the big "F" on the front of the Rams' jerseys meant something else, like a grade, as Rhode Island (also the Rams, just to make things even more interesting) stood strong to the tune of a 49-12 win.

Fordham actually scored the first try, but Rhode Island's forwards showed up and worked the driving maul nicely. Flanker Josh Adamsi scored after one of those mauls, and a solid URI scrum set up a try for lock Garren Jansezian. Flyhalf Luis Morel continued his strong play with a try for a 15-7 Rhode Island lead.

In the second half, URI wing James Giannone scored a long-range try seven minutes in and scored two in the space of 11 minutes before setting up No. 8 Jack Kelly. Hooker Justin Zeramby also scored a try.

All of this was something of a "they what?" moment for both teams.

Fordham coach Andrew Gheraldi dismissed discussion of injuries in his squad and said he expected his team to perform better.

"We gave away possession and momentum way too easily with knocks and poor decisions," said Gheraldi. "And then we lost control. We did not get off the bus."

So what this means for the Liberty Challenge games, which are streaming live on FloRugby, is that you can't predict anything. On Saturday, Rhode Island takes on a Syracuse team that, at the beginning of the season, might have felt this would be a fairly straightforward game. No such luck.

It gets no easier for Fordham, as the Rams face AIC. But wounded, annoyed, and a bit humbled, maybe the Rams will bounce back.
