Preview of Round 4 of the Pacific Rugby Premiership.
The Pacific Rugby Premiership gets back on the field this weekend after a break for the USA Sevens, and all six teams are in action.
Undefeated OMBAC is looking to take control of the top against SFGG at the Little Q at 3pm PT. Led by Tai Tuisamoa at player-coach, who is having a superb season at lock, and Charlie Purdon at scrumhalf, OMBAC is back near the top of American club rugby.
SFGG gets Eagle lock and club captain Brendan Daly back, and will look to its mobile and aggressive front row, with Nathan Sylvia playing well, to open up defenses.
Belmont Shore is 2-1 and faces Santa Monica, which is 0-3, but this LA-area rivalry game could be the turning point for the Dolphins. Shore has an experienced and hardened tight five led by Sam Lilley,, while Santa Monica will look to use the halfback hinge of Victor Woo and Shawn Lee to get the ball moving.
The game kicks off at 1pm Saturday at Westchester HS in Playa Del Rey, CA.
Olympic Club at Life West is a clash of two teams that have played well at times, but have had their struggles. O-Club is still pieces all of the pieces together, but has enjoyed an excellent season from fullback Dustin Muhn, and rides the aggression of a tough back row including Bruce Thomas, Henry Hall, and Drew Gaffney.
But the inability to converted possession into points has haunted the San Francisco-area club.
Life West has been slammed with injuries, with still had Jake Finau playing solid rugby as hooker, and Round 1 Player Of The Week Siaosi Nonu at No. 8. This week, center Calvin Nell moves into flyhalf as the Gladiators deal with injured players. Recent USA callup Devereaux Ferris returns at scrumhalf.
