The field for three of the four brackets for USA Rugby's College Sevens National Championships has been set.

The tournament, which takes place May 18-20 in Glendale, CO, will feature four brackets. The full list of Men's D2 teams has yet to be decided with two qualifiers and two at-larges to be confirmed. The Women's D1 and Women's Open divisions have been finalized. The Men's D1 bracket is finalized except for the Liberty Conference champion, which is decided this weekend.

With United World Sports encouraging teams to play in both the USA Rugby championship and the CRC, some teams that have qualified for both—namely Kutztown and Wisconsin— have opted to play in both.

Men's D1

Arizona, Arkansas, Florida International, Kutztown, Missouri, Nevada, Western Washington, and Wisconsin have all earned berths by winning a qualifier tournament. The Liberty champion will also get a spot.

Three conference winners in Mount St. Mary's, St. Joseph's, and South Carolina have opted to play in the CRC only.

That left seven at-large spots, and they have been filled by AIC, Cal, Grand Canyon, Lindenwood, Notre Dame College, San Diego State, and Utah.

Some other teams applied and didn't get in, including Davenport, which finished third at last year's nationals. Most of the teams selected have done well in several tournaments this spring (NDC lost to Kutztown on a last-second try in the Battle of the Border qualifier, for example), have performed well in sevens in the fall or finished highly at nationals in the last couple of years. Perhaps the only team that doesn't fit that description is Cal, which hasn't competed at USA Rugby's nationals since 2011 but won the CRC five times.

Women D1 Elite

This is an eight-team bracket with Army, Central Washington, Dartmouth, Davenport, Harvard, Life, Lindenwood, and Penn State. Only Army and Penn State actually qualified for this, but all of these teams have performed well in previous years.

Women Open

This is something of a catch-all of good D1 teams and some very strong D2 teams: Air Force, Bloomsburg, Chico State, Kennesaw State, Princeton, Queens University Charlotte, Sam Houston, and Texas A&M.

Men's D2

In Men's D2, William Paterson won the Tri-State Conference, defeating out-of-conference opponent UW-Milwaukee 31-14 to qualify.

That result this past weekend added WPU to a list that includes Montana State, St. Louis University, Bloomsburg, North Carolina State, UNC-Charlotte, and Norwich.

The New England Wide, Upper Midwest, and Lone Star are yet to be decided. Two more teams will be added based on how competitive they've been during the season.
