Mary Washington Takes D1AA Championship
Mary Washington defeated Dartmouth in the D1AA final.
Mary Washington made it a fall-spring double, beating Dartmouth in an exciting D1AA final Saturday at Cal State Fullerton's Titan Stadium.
Dartmouth actually led for most of the first half and into the second. But tries by Jordan Sacks (who scored three on the day), Matthew Gordon, and Harry Masters put the Mothers ahead midway through the second half put UMW ahead 33-16.
But the key try wasn't the one that put UMW ahead. It was probably when Sacks finished off a long period of pressure right at the end of the first half. That turned a 16-7 score into a 16-14 nailbiter, and gave the Mothers some momentum going into the second period.
Big score my Mother's Rugby of Mary Washington to end the half vs Dartmouth.

Dartmouth game back, but a second Masters try kept the Big Green at arms length. Mary Washington held on 38-30.
Mary Washington won the D1AA fall championship over St. Joseph's, and then had to wait six months to find out who the team would face for the overall title. Dartmouth won the spring final over Nevada two weeks ago.
