Five USA Tries That Scotland Wouldn't Have Allowed
How the USA got a lot of help from their opponents in the Eagles v Russia test match.
It's OK to be optimistic after the USA torched Russia 62-13 over the weekend, but a few words of caution—don't expect the Eagles to score tries in the same manner against Scotland this Saturday in Houston.
While the USA should be praised for playing with some adventure and taking advantage of Russia's mistakes, there were a lot of miscues by the opposition. Dropped balls, poor kicks, disorganized defense, and poor tackling all helped the Eagles' cause.

Here are five USA tries that Scotland would have never allowed:
He Who Hesitates Is Lost
Or... don't let Paul Lasike get up a head of steam.
Look at the space the Russians give Lasike.
And then not only do the Bears give the massive USA center time to get moving, but also no one completes a tackle.
From this sequence, the Eagles score but the Scots would likely not have let it get this far.
You Tackle Him, No YOU Tackle Him
John Quill was a wrecking ball against Russia and gets kudos for not giving up, but, really, the Russian tackling was very poor here. Scotland would at least have made the USA work a bit hard for this try.
Brilliance Assisted
This was a great try. Marcel Brache gets all sorts of credit for it. But Russia's chase, organization, lateral movement, and ability to just get a shoulder in the way were all sorely lacking.
C'mon, Seriously?
This sequence of events will never again present such a sweet try-scoring opportunity for the Eagles.
Once Again, Excellent Work Helped By Mistakes
The ending to this was very pretty, and the tenacity of the USA swarm defense gets some credit. But... the Russians dug themselves a hole with their mistakes here and then pulled the dirt in over themselves.
Scotland won't do this. Scotland can be scored upon, and other tries by the Eagles were beautifully constructed and would have created scoring opportunities against just about any opponent.
But to get into scoring position more than once, the USA can't rely on the other guys making these types of errors.
