West Coast 7s Kicks Off
First notes from the 2018 West Coast 7s.
The first round of action is done at the West Coast 7s; here are some observations:
CCAC acquitted itself relatively well in a 31-5 loss to Cal. Yes, it was a young Cal side, but the CCAC team, made up of former Arroyo Grande and San Luis Obispo HS players who are now at Cuesta College, a junior college in the central coast of California, played some solid moments of rugby.
The Cougars got one of the bigger cheers of the day when they scored a try against Cal.
Stanford put a bit of a scare into Cal Poly in the opener, but the Mustangs came back to win 15-10. However, Stanford looked powerful and played some solid rugby, and could scare more teams this weekend.
UCLA, was impressive in a 22-0 shutout of Cal Maritime with Patrick Regan showing well. Arizona was dominant behind Matt Rogers and Lucas Bartzis. Levi Hunt's try-saving tackle and eventual try the other way sparked a Utah win over Sac State 21-5.
