This is the middle third of the season, and perhaps the toughest part, as Europe and Autumn Internationals divide the time, and make it difficult to create, or keep, momentum.

Who's On Top

Glasgow. The Warriors, with Americans Greg Peterson and David Tameilau, are 5-1 and have to feel pretty good after beating the Cardiff Blues in Round 2 of Europe. The Americans didn't play in that game, but Canadian wing DTH van der Merwe did. The Warriors face Munster this weekend, and that won't be easy. But a victory there and the Glasgow team is in command in Conference A.

Leinster. Also at 5-1, Leinster had trouble in the opening weeks, escaping Cardiff by a point and then losing to the Scarlets by two. But since then the defense has improved markedly (15 points allowed per game in the last four), and even when Johnny Sexton can't go, Ross Byrne is ass effective getting points on the board.

Take To Make A Move

Ospreys. Is this the Ospreys team that started 2-0 or the one that lost to Munster by 36? The Welsh team finished the opening third of the season getting upended by rivals Scarlets because they couldn't get the ball back. Making twice as many tackles as their opponents, Ospreys have to be pleased with the defensive effort, but you can't score unless you have possession.

Cardiff Blues. With Blaine Scully and now Samu Manoa fit, the Blues can call on two of the USA's finest players. But 3-3 isn't really going to cut it.

Edinburgh. With Argentina center Juan Pablo Socino playing well and trying to get back into the Pumas now that a restriction on overseas-based players playing for Argentina has been put aside. That means Socino can impress right now, and so can Edinburgh, which needs to build on victories in Rounds 5 and 6, and stop leaking tries.

Scarlets. We've mentioned the Scarlets twice already, and the fact that the Llanelli-based team has beaten high-level opposition (Leinster and Ospreys) shows they can get the job done. This week, Wayne Pivac is taking his team to South Africa, and he will do that without 19 players who are unavailable for various reasons, including Wales callups. Still, a road win could do wonders.

Someone's In Trouble

Dragons play Ulster and these two are a combined 5-6-1, and 5th (Ulster) and 6th (Dragons) in Conference B. A win by one will put the winner in the conversation for a playoff spot. A loss could mean trouble, especially for the Dragons as they don't have the bonus points that Ulster has.
