Samurai PRP Player Of The Week: Tokemoana Kefu
Round 7 Samurai Player of the Week in the Pacific Rugby Premiership is Tokemoana Kefu
Round 7's Samurai PRP Player of the Week is a simple choice about a player who made two huge plays, and helped control a key aspect of the game all day.
SFGG defeated Santa Monica for Golden Gate's first victory of the season, and loosehead prop Tokemoana Kefu was in the middle of it all.
The massive front-rower scored a key try right before halftime, busting through the line from close-in to go in under the posts. Moments later, still in the first half, Kefu hammered through and made a nice offload to get his club going forward once more. Then, after a penalty, he took the pass to go over for a second try.
Those two tries essentially sealed the game for SFGG, taking what was a tight 17-12 scoreline and making it 31-12 at the break. Golden Gate held on to win 36-29.
In addition, Kefu's power in the scrum put Santa Monica under pressure throughout the day. While the Dolphins did well to secure ball at scrum time, they were usually being pushed back when it happened, and that hampered their attack.
Bullying players around in the breakdown, running effectively, and doing the job at set piece, Tokemoana Kefu was the foundation stone upon which SFGG built that victory.
