College Commits: Siena Lands First Rugby Recruit
Siena College has announced its first official rugby recruit.

Callum Douglas Younger of Colonie, NY is the first student recruited specifically to play rugby in Siena College’s club program.
Originally from Perth, Scotland, Younger is currently a senior at Shaker High School in Latham, NY within a few miles from the Siena Campus. He will enroll at Siena this fall.

“I’m grateful for the opportunity to study and play rugby at Siena,” said Younger. “Their rugby program is growing and with the support from their loyal rugby alumni, I hope my hard work and experience can help this program reach its goals.”
Younger, who plays flyhalf, started in the sport at age six at the Perthshire Rugby Club. He later played with Perth Academy in secondary school. In addition to playing on several championship teams, he had the opportunity to play at BT Murrayfield Stadium in Edinburgh and has worked with rugby greats DJ Forbes, Matt Scott, James Fleming and Troy Nathan.
Younger was recruited by Greg Matthew, who was hired by Siena in January as rugby coordinator, a new position specifically created to recruit students to Siena to play the fastest growing sport in the country.

“This is a historic moment in the history of Siena rugby as we bring in a student with the purpose of playing rugby,” said Matthew. “Callum has the potential to be a Siena rugby great: he is driven and passionate about the sport, and his experience will help to lift our program on and off the field as we look to develop the culture and ethos of Siena College Rugby.”
Siena is looking to bring in three to four new dedicated rugby players this year. The College’s rugby program is currently at the club level for both the men’s and women’s teams.
Its state-of-the-art rugby pitch opened in May 2016 and will host the National Small College Rugby Organization (NSCRO) National Championship Finals April 26-28, with teams coming from across the country to compete.
