Ireland will move its training camp to the newly-created IRFU facility to continue its world cup preparations

Ireland Moves To New Base, But No Beds?

The Ireland rugby team will continue its World Cup preparations at the brand new IRFU training facility in Abbottstown at the National Sports Campus—if only they can find a place to sleep.

The move marks an end to a nine-year run at the Carton House, a hotel in Kildare where the team has been centrally based since 2010.

But with the change there's a catch. The IRFU hasn't finished building accommodations, which means the Irish team will have to find an off-site location to stay throughout their World Cup preparations.

Well, it's a World Cup year, so sacrifices have to be made.


Following the Italy test, Ireland will head to Portugal to train in the heat before taking on England (August 24) and Wales (August 31). 

Immediately following the matchup with Wales, Head Coach Joe Schmidt must trim his roster of 44 players down to 31. Here are the 44 men currently with Schmidt's world cup training camp:
