Club 7s Draft Competition: How We'll Score It

Miss Pass: Our Club 7s Fantasy Draft

So now we know the truth, here's how it will all shake down; brace yourselves.

Your dear editor, Alex Goff, plus Alex Rees and Austin Willis, drafted teams from the Club 7s Championships, into their own pools. For the men's bracket, we somehow convinced USA head coach Mike Friday to help.

For the women, we asked Chris Brown too late, so we put in a robot as a control.

Clear so far? Watch the show when we do this (above). It makes sense.

Below are what FloRugby picked as their pools opposite what the pool really are:

The key thing to be concerned about here in terms of figuring out who will win this draft, is who goes against whom. If three teams you've picked are in the same pool, then one of your teams is guaranteed to miss the Cup Quarterfinals.

What everyone wants is a spread, so they can beat the other contestants, not themselves.

This works out relatively will in the actual draw, as no one has more than two teams in actual pools. Goff could be vulnerable in Pool A, and likely in Pool C, too. But Willis could be in real trouble in Pool D.

It's the same deal in this bracket. No one has three teams in one pool. Pool C sees Alex Goff and Austin Willis go head-to-head. Mike Friday will have his work cut out for him in Pool B, while Alex Rees needs some help in Pool A, which is probably the toughest pool.

How Does This Work?

We track how each picked team does and we use Sevens World Series points rules. We will use the Men's rules, because those rules are for 16 teams. We make one adjustment to ensure that every team gets 1 points.

And, assuming every team gets a placement game (sometimes they don't for various reasons), the points will be as follows:

1st: 22
2nd: 19
3rd: 17
4th: 15
5th: 13
6th: 12
7th: 11
8th: 10
9th: 9
10th: 8
11th: 6
12th: 5
13th: 4
14th: 3
15th: 2
16th: 1

What Do You Think?

Our Twitter poll asked you who you thought got it right, and among the Men, Mike Friday leads, while Austin Willis was deemed to have the best group among the women.
