Tonga beat New Zealand 28-22 in Group B action of the Rugby League World Cup.

It was a famous victory for Mate Ma'a and came on the heels of a win over longtime rival Samoa. Tonga ends up pool play 3-0, but the stats show the teams were relatively even in most categories.

Only the Tongans' time of possession and lack of errors - perhaps controlling the point of contact a little bit better - put them over the top.
